Microsoft is not involved directly rather it is the www.sldnug.net community who is adding the features. They will be optional and in no way compete with Linden Labs, only supplement for those who choose to use it. The article got it wrong and there should be a correction soon. We've always been wondering if this trend is truly going to surpass fad, and with companies like Microsoft starting to seriously invest in the work being done it's confirmation that Metaverse technology is here to stay. It means, no, we're not wasting our time with projects like OpenSim and it really opens the field up for serious research and development. Try thinking about it this way. The most obvious flaw in their plan is that this is really one of Linden Lab's future plans - to be the glue that binds virtual worlds together - and they're years ahead of M$. The day to REALLY worry is when LL sell The Grid to M$ and I wish that was less likely than it is. You’re certainly not the only one – and that’s why they’ll fail to implement this.
